Make your own fabulous bespoke lampshade with Kate Malfroy from The Lampshade Workroom!

Join us for an exciting workshop where you will learn the craft of modern lampshade making without any sewing or glueing involved. In this Sydney based workshop, lampshade maker Kate Malfroy from The Lampshade Workroom will guide you through the process of creating your own bespoke lampshade using professional shade making supplies. No prior knowledge or skills are required, making it perfect for beginners aged 16 and above.

During the workshop, Kate will share tips and tricks of the trade, ensuring you leave with a beautiful, finished lampshade. You can choose between making a medium-sized drum shape or a tapered shade, with drum shades being the easier option.

To ensure your lamp shade suits your style we ask you to bring your own fabric; we recommend lightweight cotton, poly-cotton mix, linen, or any other lightweight natural fibres are ideal choices. Please avoid fabrics with loose, open weaves, upholstery weight, or slinky, silky sheer or stretchy fabrics. Please bring a minimum size piece of full-width fabric (110cm wide x 50cm long).

If you'd like to turn your lampshade into a pair or make another style entirely, take-home Lampshade Kits will be available for purchase.

We'll provide tea, coffee, and some treats to keep you energised throughout the workshop. However, if you want to make this an extra special occasion, feel free to bring your own drinks and party treats. This workshop not only allows you to express your creativity and learn a new skill, but it also provides a great opportunity to connect with other crafters and lampshade making enthusiasts.

Since Kate is a special guest teacher it is not possible to reschedule the workshop to another day. In most of our workshops we require a minimum number of people to run the workshop and will do our absolute best to run every workshop we list but occasionally it is not commercially feasible to do so.
